The endless stretches of green forests and long coastlines across the country are not only “golden forests and silver seas,” essential spaces for survival, but also priceless assets for people and all living beings today and in the future. Yet this precious “treasure” is being relentlessly destroyed by human activities.
This reality issues a “command” that the time has come for us to adopt a long-term vision for nature—a strategy that is sustained and steadfast, in which nature is not a leftover in planning, but a core component of sustainable development. In this context, the consolidation of provinces and cities presents a major opportunity for Vietnam to design and expand conservation spaces for a greener, more sustainable future.

From these pressing realities, journalists from VietnamPlus e-newspaper conducted investigations, inquiries, and documentation of the tragic stories and images that reflect the suffering of forests—the suffering of thousands of local residents and of rare, endemic species. Through this work, the series sounds an urgent alarm while proposing essential solutions, in hopes of inspiring change and expanding protected “lungs of nature” so that the nation may truly rise in a new era—leaving no one behind.
